Plein Air and Daily Art

After moving to Malta, light became an integral and meaningful part in my artwork, especially in land- and seascapes. Its intensity and vibrancy is exceptional in this Mediterranean country. Unlike the light in Northern Europe, it is not transparent but has its own density, is warm and saturated. It makes numerous nuances of turquoise prevail in water and sky and has a lot of deep, velvety purples in shadows with sparkles of orange. The light transforms everyday reality becoming both a subject and inspiration. I often paint en plein air where light is most natural and challenging! The changing light forces you to concentrate and work fast. Painting on location is therefore a very intense but not always a comfortable experience due to natural conditions - strong wind which often brings in sand and tears the paper off from a painting board or heat which makes you feel slightly delirious. Paintings shown here are mostly plein air paintings and those I painted as a sponteneous response to a moment which fascinated me. They are mostly available at a budget friendly price directly from my studio and ship worldwide (usually unframed). Please contact me for more details.
