Immersion into sea waters symbolizes for me the most intimate connection between a human being and the universe. It transfers me to the beginning, to a wholesome self. The water works as a cocoon quieting the inquisitive mind and the noise of the outside world, comforting the anguish of the soul and the pain. The inside and outside worlds interweave, become reflected in each other. The turmoil of the inner landscape calms down, staying visible only in the water surface reflections. I loose my outlines - the time dissolves into eternity. I finished this work just two days before leaving the island of Malta in August while still carrying this feeling in me.
This painting was part of the IAPS (International Association of Pastel Societies) 35th Juried Webshow 2019 and is in private collection in Luxembourg.
"I can almost hear the rush of water and feel the cold and turbulence just before the silence closes in beneath the waves, for that brief moment. It’s so evocative.” Margaret Ingles, Australian painter.
